CLAUDE.md

This file provides guidance to Claude Code (claude.ai/code) when working with code in this repository.

Repository Overview

This is a document repository containing a mathematics teacher’s course philosophy notes — not a software project. There are no build systems, tests, or dependencies.

Contents

  • My First Class.md — Opening address to students: teaching philosophy, beliefs about mathematics and learning, mutual expectations between teacher and students.
  • My Last Class.md — Closing address to students: reflections on the course goals, perspective on exams and marks, encouragement to continue learning independently.

Document Style

Both files are plain Markdown written in a direct, reflective tone. They express a philosophy of teaching mathematics through understanding rather than memorization. Key recurring themes:

  • Clarity of reasoning over procedural imitation
  • Confusion and mistakes as normal parts of learning
  • Consistency over last-minute effort
  • Asking “why” as more important than knowing “how”

When editing or extending these documents, preserve the simple, honest voice and avoid jargon or over-formatting.
